Gurusaday Museum, located about 15km from Kolkata on Diamond Harbour Road, is a treasure trove of Bengali folk art and crafts. Established in 1961, the museum houses over 3,000 items collected by Gurusaday Dutt during his tenure as a civil servant. The collection includes woodwork, textiles, pottery, puppets, terracotta objects, tribal masks, manuscripts, dolls and stone sculptures dating back to the 16th century, which amply reflect the vigour and vitality of the rural life and present a vivid picture of art and social traditions, religious beliefs, practices and motifs, as well as aesthetic assimilation and cultural influences. These objects span from the time of undivided Bengal to present day India.
