This university has a strong reputation for its diverse art programs and provides a well-rounded education in visual arts.
The Department of Applied Arts was established in 1963 at the Faculty of Visual Arts, BHU. The department runs various courses viz. UG, PG, and PhD in
Applied Arts. In addition, Diploma and Certificate Courses are also being offered for One Year, Six Months, and Two Months.
Department have visionary faculty members from its establishment. Professor Jyotish Bhatacharjee, Professor P. B. Lal, Professor A. P. Gajjar, Shri Shyamal Das Gupta, Shri Vijay Kumar, Shri K. S. Shrivastava, Shri D. L. Bohra, Shri R. K. Mukharjee, Shri Vijay Singh and Dr. Vidhu Bhushan Singh served. Professor
Hiralal Prajapati, Dr. Manish Arora and Dr. Ashish Kumar Gupta are unconditionally committed towards the vision of the Department of Applied Arts and to the propagation of quality education in the area of Applied Arts.
The faculty members are actively engaged in research and are regularly invited to various art and design events across India and globally. In addition, our faculty members and technical associates have won numerous accolades under the auspices of National Lalit Kala Akademi, State Lalit Kala Akademi, All India Fine Arts & Craft Society – New Delhi, U.G.C. Raman Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA, Visiting Scholar and Teaching Fellowships New York State University, University at Buffalo. Recently the Faculty received some significant projects under SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) in collaboration with Michigan State University and Maryland Institute College of Art (USA).; IMPRESS (Impactful Policy Research in Social Science) and PMMMNMTT – Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission for Teachers Training; Aspirational Cities project by Niti Aayog (GoI) in collaboration with Vivekanand Educational Society Institute of Management, Mumbai, Maharashtra; Institute of Eminence Scheme IoE- BHU (Faculty Incentive). Besides that, faculty members regularly published Research papers in UGC Care Listed and peer-reviewed journals.
Faculty members Also continuously organized and participated in Seminars/ Conferences/ Workshops /Webinars at the International level and National levels. MoU with NIESBUD – National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, Ministry of Skill Development, GoI. Also running Virtual Exchange programme from Plymouth College of Art, UK for Photography.
