Saraya – Ecostay, Art Cafe and Art Gallery in Goa

Saraya is a space where people come together to create, share and experience art. It encourages sustainable practices through permaculture courses, eco-movie nights and farmer’s markets.

Saraya harbours a cafe that encourages slow food and a regenerative farm to table concept, as well as an Eco Stay built from natural and up-cycled material. Saraya is a beautiful sustainable community that encapsulates living in harmony with nature.

Saraya is home to one of the most charming art galleries in all of Goa! Located in the main Saraya building, a beautifully restored, 300-year-old Portuguese house, in the quaint village of Sangolda, artists, sculptors, writers, musicians and theatre groups come together to share their mutual love for the world of creativity. Besides displaying work, a series of workshops are regularly held to inspire individuals and offer them a chance to explore the artist within. After browsing our beautiful art gallery feel free to enjoy a delicious meal in our outdoor café, or join one of our reflecting art workshops.

Eco Stay

The vision of Saraya’s guest accommodation was inspired and influenced by the landscape which it sits within, and the materials that were directly available to us. Many of the construction materials are natural, such as mud, clay, bamboo and leaves.

We offer our guests two types of eco-stay/natural living accommodation- mud houses and tree houses. We built these structures around the existing trees on the land, keeping the environment intact, and incorporating the plant life into our living spaces.

The workforce that built our accommodation was comprised of members from all over India, which resulted in a rich culmination of knowledge of, and experience in traditional building methods and the construction of sustainable living environments.

The 3 tree houses are completely elevated structures, made from bamboo and woven wood. Even all of our door handles, windows and other featured furniture are made from natural materials like tree branches or palm, or from recycled or reclaimed items.

Each guest house features a roof made from recycled tetra pack compressed corrugated sheets and is necessary to protect our guests from certain harsh weather conditions that can be a part of everyday life at particular times of the year in Goa.

Each of our houses is designed to be an interesting and inspiring space, whilst offering the common amenities of any hotel and the excitement of being at one with nature.

Cafe & Restaurant

At Saraya we strive towards being ecologically sustainable, by using as much organic produce in our cooking as we can, and using as many ingredients as possible from our very own farm.

Our menu is bursting with freshness. From beetroot to basil, capsicum to cashew, we handpick our ingredients so that we can provide you with the finest lemongrass, zucchini, ruccola, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, pineapple and so much more.

Our dishes are carefully flavoured with selected herbs and spices, giving your senses an indulgent experience. We use fresh coriander daily, along with thyme, rosemary, oregano, star anise, cinnamon and cardamom to make sure our food is seasoned and spiced to perfection.
